Coupon code not working? Check these details before changing your cart

A rejected coupon does not always mean you typed it incorrectly. The offer may apply to a different customer, item or purchase amount. Start with the rejection message and the merchant's own offer terms before adding products you did not plan to buy.

Check the offer, then the cart

Rules vary by retailer. For example, Michaels' promotions FAQ asks shoppers to check dates, spaces and exclusions; it also distinguishes multiple promotions in one order from applying multiple codes to one item. DSW's US promotion rules include customer-use limits, minimum-purchase requirements and brand exclusions. Those examples are not universal rules for other stores.

Why a $70 cart might not qualify

Here is an illustrative example, not a live promotion: an offer requires $50 of eligible merchandise. Your cart contains $45 of eligible items and a $25 excluded item. You have $70 in the cart, but only $45 counts toward that offer.

Before spending another $5, compare the extra cost with the discount you would actually receive. If the extra item is unwanted, paying less for the original cart may be the better decision.

Keep the details when asking for help

If the offer still appears applicable, save its official link, the exact error message and a screenshot of the cart with personal details hidden. Ask the merchant which condition is preventing the discount. Do not share your password or full payment details.
